February 8, 2005: The Parker Racing Team’s No. 1 Truck, with Shawn Parker and Mark Lowrey aboard, will be competing at New Smyrna Speedway in FASCAR’s Pro Truck Winter Heat Series Thursday, Feb. 17 through Saturday, Feb. 19.
“We are really excited about this,” said Parker, a three-time (2000-2002) American Race Truck (ARTs) Northeast Regional champion. “Actually things fit together very nicely for us. They expect 40 to 50 trucks so we’ve got our work cut out for us.”
Parker will driver on Thursday and Friday nights with Lowrey, the 2003 AllStar Race Trucks Northeast Regional Rookie of the Year, jumping in for the Saturday night event.
Crew Chief Bob Pierce will be directing the effort. Pierce played a key role in the Parker’s championships and Lowrey’s strong rookie
campaign.
About to enter the University of South Carolina in quest of an MBA in International Business, Parker plans a busy 2005 none-the-less. He will also run four American/Canadian Tour (ACT) races beginning with the May 21 race at Oxford Plains Speedway.
“The Winter Heat Series is really a combination of our two racers,” says Parker. “Chassis wise the rules pretty much comply with our ARTs truck, but they allow bigger motors so we’ll be using the ACT motor.”
Parker has three truck wins at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway and one at the now gone Flemington Speedway, both facilities similar to the lightning-quick New Smyrna layout. “Hopefully we can use some of that experience,” he says.
The ACT agenda also includes White Mountain (NH) June 11, Seekonk (MA) on Aug.13 and Lee again Sept. 25.
